Hankering for a really good cup of coffee!

Hello friends!

We hope that all is well inside of your bubbles wherever you may be.  Like most folks, we are antsy to get on with life.  We are hopeful that by next week, we will be in level 3 which enables us to get coffee or food on a take out basis.  Dan's already scoped out the closest cafe for us to get a steaming hot flat white made with really good coffee beans!

Conversations with family and friends keep us smiling.  Too much "news" time is prevented by taking frequent long walks, doing exercise videos and working on learning how to speak Spanish.  Since we intend to travel as soon as the world allows us to do so and we know we will need to have some fluency in Spanish, we figured now was a good time to get started.

Our weather has been absolutely spectacular for the past several weeks.  Temperatures make it to the high sixties by mid day enabling us to be in shorts often.  We have made our second trek to the ocean with intentions to do so again this weekend.  We are really looking forward to living closer to the sound of the waves in the near future!

Snow on the mountains to the north of us arrived a few days ago

Ever the optimists, we have booked our departure flight to the north island for May 14.  We are expected to be in level 2 by then which does allow domestic flights to be taken.  There are still many unknowns at this time so all arrangements are subject to change.   We have found a nice apartment with an ocean view and easy access to the beach in a medium sized city called Tauranga.  From that locale, we can explore up and down the eastern seaboard of the north island with ease.  We don't expect many of the tourist spots such as vineyards, whale watching tours, etc. to be open right away.  But so long as we can get out to the national parks for some hiking, we will be all set.  Our plan is to stay there through at least the end of June.

In the meantime, we are roaming throughout Christchurch.  Fall colors glimmer in the sunshine while flowering plants provide vibrant splashes of happiness.  Because the climate is so temperate here, something is always blooming.  Camilla plants seem to be next on stage and will bloom throughout the winter.

We hope that soon your bubbles may expand to include family and friends.  Stay safe and be well!

    1. That is an interesting question. We were supposed to be heading to Malaysia but any international travel seems highly unlikely until early 2021. There is talk of allowing travel between Australia and New Zealand in the near future. We would consider heading back to Aussie to explore a few parts of the country we didn't get to see the first time. Guess we will see how this all unfolds! Take care of yourself.
