This n That

We are nearing 4 months in this great country lovely referred to as Oz.  So far,  our routine has been to visit a city where we spend about 2 weeks hiking all over the metro area enjoying the vibe and sights.
Adelaide's Botanical Garden is beautiful.
These old hotels are originals and are still in use today
Honoring the original aboriginal people of Australia
Mansions from a different time

This week we stopped by the University of Adelaide to check out the National Wine Centre.  We learned more about the area's wine industry and were impressed with the science involved in creating today's fabulous varieties.
Tasting Room of course!

While in the city, we walk or use public transportation.  However, after 2 weeks without a car, we are ready to get out and explore the surrounding areas.   Adelaide has a small mountain range to it's east which offers some lovely views and quaint towns to explore.  We visited Hahndorf, a small village originally settled by German Lutherans in 1839.   Since bratwurst and sauerkraut is a childhood comfort food for me (which Dan has also learned to enjoy), we had to check out the food scene of this quaint town.
Distinct German style architecture

Who would have imagined a Brauhaus in Australia!

Driving east out of the mountains we found rolling hills covered in grain fields or pastures filled with sheep or cattle.  We were once again in Australia's farming country.  Aussie farmers originally called themselves pastoralists or grazers and it is terminology still used today.   Grazers who exclusively raise cattle have large properties they call Stations which we would call a ranch.  (Probably too much information for those of you who didn't grow up on a farm, but as the saying goes.  "You can take the girl out of the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the girl!")
Ranch land Aussie style

Our next stop is Kangaroo Island, known for it's wildlife, scenery and laid back vibe.  With only 4000 people in total living on the island, we know it will be quiet.

Stay Curious!
