Live Salty!

We are spending our last two months in the US in a lovely Florida "Salt Life" town called Ponce Inlet.  Located just 10 miles south of Daytona, here the world revolves around water. With access to both the ocean and river.......... boats, surfing, beach cruising and fishing fill the days.  We are staying in a lovely condo at the Harbor Village Yacht and Golf Club situated between the Halifax river and the Atlantic ocean. Here are a few of the views from our balcony.
Ponce Inlet has conservation friendly land use regulations which means the beaches are pristine and the wildlife abounds everywhere.  A morning stroll on the beach will reveal no fewer than 50 active sea turtle nests up and down the coast. It's been fun to find fresh turtle tracks and a newly dug turtle egg nest.  No luck in actually seeing a hatching of baby turtles......yet! In addition, dolphins are visitors to our harbor so we get to watch them play and fish frequently. Bird life is plentiful and many are teaching their young broods to begin feeding themselves.

Speaking of food, Ponce Inlet has some really great local places with names like Crabby Joe's, Off the Hook, Jerry's Tiki Hut (amazing pizza) and Down the Hatch Seafood Company (our favorite).  All serve the freshest fish plus fun things like gator tail and generally have music in the evenings with truly talented local artists. We've had many fun nights of biking down to one of the local joints, having a great meal, listening to some good music and watching the sunset.
We've had so much fun exploring the area with Dan's brother and his wife who visited over the 4th of July Holiday. In addition, Dan's sister and our great nephew Gregory, who is just barely 8 years old,
came down for a few days.  Gregory is a budding fisherman and to date has only caught freshwater fish in the 6 inch range. Imagine his surprise when we took him out shark fishing and Dan helped Gregory land his first sand shark!  Of course we also taught Gregory the importance of catch & release since we were not going to eat this type of shark.

If you enjoy a small town atmosphere and are looking for lots of family friendly outdoor activities paired with a laid back beach vibe, we'd definitely recommend Ponce Inlet as a place to visit. We hope you visit here soon. Live Salty!!!
