Enjoying familiar Territory

Upon returning from the Bahamas, we stayed in Orlando for a couple of days and then headed to South Dakota  to visit with Cheryl's family.  It was fun to catch up with everyone and spend some time hiking around downtown Sioux Falls.  True to its name, Sioux Falls, SD has a lovely river that runs through the city and over some pretty falls.  A park encompasses the area making it a family friendly, picnic eating kind of place where you can spend several hours exploring.  If you have any desire to visit the Midwest, make sure to include Sioux Falls on your list.

Next stop was Orlando again as it is basically our home base airport.  Our VRBO wasn't available until July 1 so we stayed in Orlando and opted to "do the parks" as the saying goes.  Epcot was fun so long as we stayed away from the really popular rides for the small kids where the wait ran 45+ minutes at times. Our favorite part of Epcot is visiting the different countries.  The drummers from China were incredible.

We enjoyed Sea World tremendously.  The shows with the whales, dolphins and other sea life were educational and entertaining. And for all of you roller coaster fans, Sea World has a monster ride called the Manta.  Ride it if you dare!

We also took time to explore parts of Orlando away from the parks.  Winter Park is a small town nestled in the Orlando metro area.  Originally founded as a resort community by business magnates in the late 19th century, Winter Park is filled with green spaces such as the Mead Botanical Garden, a number of museums and a lively downtown filled with boutique shops and cafes.  We wandered the pretty campus of Rollins College, a private liberal arts school.  It was a fun way to spend an afternoon plus there were no lines or fussy children having a melt down which was a nice change from the theme park scene!
Next stop is Ponce Inlet, Florida a quaint area with pristine beaches and lots of wildlife.  We will post soon!
